Great post. The Founders of the U.S. Constitution had a great understanding of human nature and ambition. Federalist No. 51, discussing the purpose of the separation of powers: "But the great security against a gradual concentration of the several powers in the same department, consists in giving to those who administer each department the necessary constitutional means and personal motives to resist encroachments of the others. . . . Ambition must be made to counteract ambition."

I think these profiles line up pretty well with our political divide today. Very interesting.

Thank you for your post. I would like to read your impressions of Harold Bloom if you have thoughts about him. I don't see myself as much of a populist but weak leaders can't get anything done even if they have mostly the right ideas and motivations(motivations are always mixed). Trump projected strength(he couldn't project competence) so I could see his appeal and he was shrewd in playing that card. The Republican primary in 2016 became an almost infantile display of strength but voters weren't stupid to look for strength because how else are you going to get anything done.

Great post. Looks like in the present era, those using dominance as their strategy are ineffective and even buffonish (at using their power to truly help their followers) - Biden. And those using prestige as their strategy - Fauci, Lloyd Austin, John Kirby) are incompetent. Pretenders and clowns now rule us.

One might argue that the study is down stream from Rene Girard...
